Backyard Oasis – Creating Personalized Destinations
Meet Hilda Lopez this month! Her “Sign in the Wild” is a beautiful statement about her love of life, her backyard, and her son. It’s a true legacy.
First, a little about Hilda. Hilda is courageous and determined to not let her second bout of cancer, this time stage 4, dampen her lust for life and her love of her 19-year-old son Ismael. She has always enjoyed being outdoors, especially in her back yard which she felt needed some pizzazz! She wanted her yard to become a destination. A place she could relax. A happy place where she could even enjoy some naps. More important though, she wanted to leave her son a peaceful place where he could smile when remembering her after she inevitably loses her battle with cancer.
Hilda’s roommate suggested that she turn her backyard into an outdoor living room and kitchen – that she bring the “inside outside.” Hilda loved the idea and put up two pergolas. Next came furniture, and the backyard was transforming into the haven Hilda had dreamed about.
But it still needed “something.”
Enter Chad and Timeless Steel Designs. Hilda wasn’t sure what she wanted her custom metal sign to say – she wanted something more than just her family name on a sign. Chad suggested “Backyard Oasis” and she instantly knew that was the perfect name for her new paradise. She added the year 2003 and “Lopez Family” to the sign to not only pay tribute to her family name, but to mark the year her son was born and the message was complete. The sign now graces one side of the pergola.
Next came the outdoor kitchen plans which are still in progress. The kitchen side of the pergola says “Lopez Bar & Grille 2003.” And the outdoor oasis plans aren’t complete yet. Her roommate is building a deck with a gazebo. Hilda’s backyard is truly becoming the “destination” she wants to leave as a legacy to her son.
